The transfer of Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea to Manchester City for a joint-British record £125m was one of the most significant moves of the window. It turns out that the Argentine midfielder was a highly anticipated arrival, with the existing squad actively pushing for the deal.
Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca revealed the behind-the-scenes excitement during the final days of the transfer window, noting that several senior players were eager to know if the deal would happen.
I promise you that in the last four or five days four or five players from the squad were asking if he is coming or not because they want him to be with us. Enzo Maresca
Maresca, who previously managed Fernandez at Chelsea, praised the midfielder's winning mentality. He believes the 25-year-old is exactly what the team needs to compete for multiple trophies. Following the arrivals of Fernandez and Iliman Ndiaye, the manager confirmed that City's squad overhaul is now complete.
The club has also confirmed a shift in leadership, with Ruben Dias named the new club captain, succeeding the departed Bernardo Silva. The leadership group will now consist of Dias, Erling Haaland, Marc Guehi, and Gianluigi Donnarumma.
