Dominik Livakovic, who made a surprise summer move to Barcelona from Fenerbahce for approximately €3 million, is setting his sights on the starting goalkeeper position. While Joan Garcia is currently the undisputed first choice for the Catalan giants, the Croatian international is committed to challenging for the top spot.
Agent Andy Bara, speaking on the Inkubator podcast, revealed that the initial plan was for Livakovic to return to Dinamo Zagreb on loan to secure regular playing time. However, the deal collapsed due to unexpected demands from the Croatian club. "We spoke with Dinamo Zagreb for a one-year loan, but then they told me they wanted a two-year loan. Legally, that wasn't possible, and besides, Barcelona wouldn't have accepted it," Bara explained.
Bara expressed frustration with the situation, noting that Dinamo Zagreb subsequently signed another goalkeeper for just one season, which he found contradictory. Consequently, Livakovic remained in Catalonia, where he is now training and acclimatising to the squad alongside veteran Wojciech Szczesny.

With Szczesny's contract set to expire at the end of the campaign, a path to regular football could open up for the Croatian. Bara remains optimistic that rotation during a congested schedule will allow Livakovic to earn between seven and ten appearances, providing him with the chance to prove his quality to the coaching staff.
