Didier Deschamps to miss France's World Cup game after mother's death

France head coach Didier Deschamps will miss his side's final World Cup 2026 group stage match following the death of his mother, the French Football Federation (FFF) has confirmed.

The 57-year-old manager received the news on Tuesday morning. FFF president Philippe Diallo has granted Deschamps permission to fly back to France to attend the funeral.

France has already secured a spot in the knockout stages after victories against Senegal and Iraq. They are scheduled to face Norway in Boston this Friday, a match that will determine the final winner of Group I.

The FFF stated that assistant coach Guy Stephan will assume responsibility for the squad in Deschamps' absence.
