29-year-old right-back Chris Cadden has completed a permanent move from Hibernian to Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen for an undisclosed fee. The defender has signed a two-year contract at Pittodrie, citing a desire for "a fresh challenge" and increased playing opportunities.
Cadden made his final appearance for Hibs as a substitute in Thursday's 4-1 Conference League qualifying victory against Malisheva. Over his five-year tenure at the Leith club, following his arrival from Columbus Crew, he made 166 appearances in total.
Aberdeen manager Stephen Robinson, who previously managed Cadden at Motherwell, praised the player's character. "Chris is a brilliant addition to our group. He has a great engine, always shows a willingness to get forward and support the attack, but he's also matured into a really dependable full-back defensively," Robinson stated.
Discussing his move, Cadden highlighted the influence of his former manager: "Having worked with the manager before, I know the scale of his ambition and what he is looking to achieve. His passion and vision for the team were clear. It's a fresh challenge for me."
Hibs head coach David Gray acknowledged Cadden's contribution to the club, noting: "The energy, consistency, professionalism and the way he has conducted himself every day has helped set the standard for new players and young lads coming through. Unfortunately, we couldn't offer him as much game time as he would've liked here."
