Chelsea release Richard Olise after 11 years at the club
Chelsea have officially released Richard Olise, the younger brother of Bayern Munich's Michael Olise, as part of an academy squad overhaul.
Chelsea have confirmed their retained and released list for the upcoming season, officially parting ways with Richard Olise after an 11-year spell at the club. The defender, younger brother of Bayern Munich star Michael Olise, is one of four academy talents departing the West London side.
Olise joined the Cobham academy as a nine-year-old and progressed through the youth ranks. Despite his long tenure, he was unable to break into the senior squad. His closest opportunity for first-team action came during the 2024-25 season when he was named on the bench for a UEFA Conference League match, but he remained an unused substitute.
This departure is part of a strategic academy overhaul at Stamford Bridge aimed at streamlining the youth roster. Along with Olise, the club has released defender Brodi Hughes, midfielder Sam Rak-Sakyi, and forward Jimi Tauriainen. The move allows the club to clear space for fresh recruitment.
As he enters the free agency market, Olise will now look for a new club where he can secure his first taste of senior professional football.
