French champions and recent Champions League finalists Olympique Lyonnais are preparing to announce the signing of Scottish international Caroline Weir. The deal is expected to be made official in the coming days.
The 30-year-old forward, who was previously nominated for the Ballon d'Or, becomes a free agent following the expiration of her contract with Real Madrid, a club she joined in 2022 from Manchester City. During her two seasons with the Spanish side, she was directly involved in 55 goals—35 goals and 20 assists—across 82 appearances in all competitions.
Weir serves as the captain of the Scotland national team and previously participated in the 2020 Olympic Games representing Great Britain.
Additionally, Olympique Lyonnais has announced the arrival of goalkeeper Maria Luisa Grohs. The 25-year-old German, previously with Bayern Munich, has signed a one-year deal and will serve as the backup to Christiane Endler.
