Portuguese manager Carlos Queiroz has departed as head coach of the Ghana national team for the second time in three months. The Ghana Football Association confirmed the mutual termination of his contract following a winless start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
Queiroz's second stint with the Black Stars lasted less than a month. Pressure mounted after an away defeat to Ivory Coast (0-2) and a shocking 2-4 home loss against Gambia in Accra, where the team surrendered a 2-0 lead to concede four unanswered goals.
Despite our commitments and efforts, the necessary conditions were not fully created. The talent and potential are there. Through unity, support, and the right environment, this generation can achieve great success for Ghana. Carlos Queiroz
Following these results, Ghana sits bottom of Group C with zero points. Queiroz, who previously led the team during the 2026 World Cup, noted that while he had envisioned a long-term project aimed at the 2030 World Cup, stepping down was the most appropriate decision for the interests of Ghanaian football.
The national team is currently navigating a significant crisis, having failed to qualify for the 2025 AFCON. The squad now faces an urgent need for stability ahead of their upcoming November fixtures against Somalia.
