Former Everton manager Brian Sorensen is set to join the Republic of Ireland women's squad as an assistant coach for their upcoming World Cup play-off qualifiers. He will work alongside Liverpool's Amber Whiteley within the team's coaching set-up.
It is understood that Sorensen will retain his existing role as technical director for the Aston Villa women's team. He will join up with the Irish squad specifically during the international break.
In this new role, he will work under manager Carla Ward. The pair previously faced each other in the Women's Super League when Ward was at the helm of Aston Villa and Sorensen managed Everton.
The Republic of Ireland is scheduled to play Kazakhstan in the first round of the play-off qualification stage. The two-legged tie is set to take place on 9 and 13 October.
