Bordeaux saved from extinction in sensational €1 takeover
Girondins de Bordeaux have avoided liquidation after Park Bench agreed to purchase the French club from Gerard Lopez for a symbolic fee.

In a significant development for French football, Bordeaux has confirmed that a deal has been reached to change ownership for the symbolic price of just one euro. The agreement sees the company previously owned by Gerard Lopez relinquish control to a new firm, Park Bench.
While the purchase price is minimal, the new owners are assuming a massive financial burden. The club stated that the operation is concluded with the assumption of all existing debts and liabilities. By absorbing these significant financial pressures, Park Bench has provided a lifeline to an institution that faced a very real threat of liquidation following months of administrative and economic instability.
The fall of Bordeaux has been painful for its supporters, seeing the club drop from European competition regulars to exclusion from the national professional leagues. The club has described the formal agreement as a major step forward, representing a glimmer of hope for a future that many feared was lost.
Despite the breakthrough, the deal is not yet fully ratified. The new owners must now undergo a rigorous vetting process to prove their financial viability and long-term intentions for the club. They are scheduled to appear before the Regional Management Control Commission of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Football League. This hearing is a vital legal requirement to ensure the club can operate sustainably and secure its place within the Regional 1 division.
