Birmingham City have secured the signing of goalkeeper Katie Startup. The 27-year-old joins the newly promoted side on a free transfer following the expiration of her contract at Manchester City.

During her time with Manchester City, Startup was part of the squad that secured the Women's Super League title and the Women's FA Cup in the 2025-26 season. While she did not make a senior appearance for the club, she was valued for her professionalism and influence within the training group.

Coming up from the WSL 2 off the back of an impressive season and being part of a new era for the club is really exciting. I've worked with Amy Merricks and Hope Powell before, and I know they share the same values that I do. Katie Startup

Startup has reportedly signed a two-year deal with the club. Birmingham City boss Amy Merricks highlighted the goalkeeper's experience across several WSL environments as a key asset for the squad as they prepare to compete in the top flight.

Having worked with Katie previously, I know exactly the qualities she'll bring to this football club. She's a dedicated professional, a brilliant team-mate and someone who is always looking to improve. Amy Merricks
