BBC Sport has announced a major expansion of its football content ahead of the new season, featuring new talent for the iconic Match of the Day program and a significant boost to its digital presence. Former players Toby Alderweireld, Robbie Keane, and Ashley Young, alongside former Tottenham manager Thomas Frank, will join the Match of the Day punditry team.
Simultaneously, the broadcaster is launching four new shows on its BBC Football YouTube channel: FANS², The Truth About Football, Golden Goal, and Football Hub. The initiative places a strong emphasis on fan experience, highlighted by the creation of the BBC Sport Fan Collective, which will bring together supporters from all 20 Premier League clubs.
BBC Director of Sport Alex Kay-Jelski stated that the goal is to place fans at the heart of the game, blending the expert perspectives of former professionals with the passion of supporters to create a richer experience across all platforms.
Beyond digital expansion, the BBC continues its extensive broadcast schedule. BBC Radio 5 Live will cover 209 Premier League matches, while fans can access FA Cup, Bundesliga, and Serie A coverage across the BBC iPlayer and website. Regional commitments have also been strengthened, with a new three-year agreement secured in Northern Ireland to ensure free-to-air coverage of domestic and international football.
