Barcelona is preparing for a busy summer transfer window as the club plans a major squad overhaul. Strengthening the defense is the top priority for the Catalan side, with Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol emerging as their primary target.
According to journalist Juanma Castaño, Barcelona's interest in the Croatian international is concrete, and the club is actively working on a potential deal. The coaching staff values Gvardiol highly for his reliability and tactical versatility, as he can operate effectively as both a central defender and a left-back.
That matters because Barcelona is looking for players who can provide tactical flexibility in their defensive setup. Due to a serious shin injury sustained earlier this year, Gvardiol has been limited to 25 appearances this season, contributing two goals and four assists.
The situation regarding the player's contract, which runs until the summer of 2028, remains a key factor. Currently, Transfermarkt estimates the defender's market value at 70 million euros.
