Barcelona make £69m offer for Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon

Barcelona have launched a formal opening bid for Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon, submitting an offer of €80 million (£69m) plus performance-related add-ons. The Catalan club is keen to secure the 25-year-old's services and has already initiated contact with his representatives.

Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco are identified as admirers of the former Everton player, viewing him as a key target. While Barcelona hold a €30m purchase option for Marcus Rashford that expires on June 15, they are now prioritizing a move for Gordon instead. The club believes that Gordon’s lower salary demands and the ability to sign him to a longer contract make the deal more financially sustainable under their current budget constraints.

The move comes as Newcastle appear to be preparing for a potential exit. Earlier this season, Magpies manager Eddie Howe admitted that Gordon had been omitted from matchday squads because he was focused on his future, fueling speculation about a departure.

Barcelona are competing directly with Bayern Munich, who were previously considered the frontrunners for Gordon. However, the Bundesliga side has been reluctant to meet the €80m valuation, allowing Barcelona to gain an advantage in the negotiations. The Spanish club is now pushing to finalize the deal quickly.
