Atlético to sign a new defender? Domínguez responds
Due to injuries and departures, Atlético Mineiro is looking to strengthen its defensive line in the transfer market.

Atlético Mineiro head coach Eduardo Domínguez confirmed that the club is actively searching for a new center-back. The defensive unit has faced significant challenges due to recent injuries and the departure of several key players.
Currently, Domínguez has Ruan, Vitor Hugo, and Vitão as his primary options, while Lyanco and Léo Duarte are sidelined. Lyanco suffered a plantar fascia injury during a Copa Sudamericana match, while new arrival Léo Duarte is recovering from a thigh injury sustained before his debut.
There is a need. After learning the recovery timeline for Lyanco, we started talking to the board about the best options. We are working on it, — said Eduardo Domínguez.
In addition to the injury crisis, the club has seen defensive departures, including Ivan Román's loan to Colo-Colo and Junior Alonso's move to the United States. Despite the thin squad, the manager praised his team's defensive performance in the recent 3-0 victory over Grêmio.
The search for defensive reinforcement comes at a vital time, as Atlético competes in the Brasileirão, the Copa Sudamericana round of 16 second leg against Red Bull Bragantino, and the Copa do Brasil quarter-finals against Cruzeiro.
