Atalanta captain Marten de Roon is on the verge of completing a transfer to AS Roma. Despite negotiations to extend his stay at the end of last season, a long-term agreement was not finalized, opening the door for the Roman club to swoop in this summer.
The deal will see the Bergamo side receive a compensation fee of €1 million. De Roon is expected to arrive in Rome today, August 30, to undergo medical examinations ahead of signing his new contract.
This move marks the end of a significant era for the club. Over the past nine years, the 35-year-old midfielder has made 445 appearances for Atalanta, contributing 23 goals and 32 assists.
