Amorim comments on victory over Manchester United
AC Milan head coach Ruben Amorim dismissed suggestions of emotional attachment to his former club and clarified his stance on squad competition.
Following a decisive victory over his former club, AC Milan head coach Ruben Amorim made clear statements regarding his past and future. The manager, who spent 14 turbulent months at Manchester United, rejected claims that facing his former players carried any deep emotional significance.
No. For me, it was just a normal match. Since signing with Milan, I feel nothing for Manchester United. I am proud of my time there and I still love the club. But after moving to Milan, I feel nothing bad because I am very happy. Ruben Amorim
Amorim noted that the 4-2 win against the English side, featuring goals from Samuel Chukwueze, Alfadjo Cisse, Goncalo Ramos, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, served a pragmatic purpose in preparing his team for the upcoming season.
Regarding internal squad dynamics, the coach emphasized that past achievements do not guarantee a starting spot for anyone. Discussing Rafael Leao, Amorim stated that his compatriot will have to fight for his place due to intense competition from players like Christian Pulisic and Alexis Saelemaekers. He also confirmed that Leao's recent injury is not serious.
Additionally, Amorim explained the absence of Mike Maignan and Adrien Rabiot, noting they were granted extra leave at his personal request. The pair will return this Sunday to join final preparations for next week's Serie A opener in Turin.
