Former England defender Alan Stubbs has jumped to the defense of Trent Alexander-Arnold, dismissing claims that the Real Madrid right-back is a poor defender. Stubbs argues that critics are far too focused on perceived weaknesses while ignoring the player's elite attacking output.
I think Trent Alexander-Arnold is a fantastic player. And sometimes we look at people's weaknesses rather than looking at people's strengths. Because what he gives us going forward outweighs what he can give us defensively. Alan Stubbs
Stubbs noted that it is the responsibility of the manager to tailor the tactical setup to accommodate Alexander-Arnold’s specific skill set. He expressed his belief that England appears to be a weaker side when the former Liverpool man is not included in the starting lineup.
Alexander-Arnold’s work ethic has also earned praise from former England star Emile Heskey. Despite being rotated in and out of the international squad, the 27-year-old has maintained a professional approach. He continues to focus on club performances under Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid, hoping to make his case for a regular international spot impossible to ignore amidst fierce competition from the likes of Reece James and Tino Livramento.
