The match carried extra narrative weight as Rossoneri head coach Ruben Amorim faced his former side, successfully proving his tactical edge in the high-stakes duel.
United started on a positive note, with Harry Maguire nodding home a Bruno Fernandes corner just two minutes into the game. Milan responded quickly; defensive lapses from the English side allowed Goncalo Ramos to set up Samuel Chukwueze for the equalizer. Before the interval, United had a golden opportunity to retake the lead, but captain Bruno Fernandes saw his penalty attempt saved by Lorenzo Torriani.
The second half remained end-to-end. Patrick Dorgu restored United's lead, but Milan hit back almost immediately through Alfadjo Cisse.
